I did enjoy the book once the characters settled into the past, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had just been a book about living in Britain during World War II, sans time travel. I haven't read Doomsday Book since high school, but in retrospect it seems more tightly put together, so I suspect that annoyances would persist or worsen?
