My Life, and More Tangible Objects

One of the more amusing things about a mathematics graduate program is that when they start listing the applications of a branch of mathematics, most of the applications are other kinds of mathematics. And one of the others is string theory.

[livejournal.com profile] rabican has a list of books:

Neil Gaiman
Roald Dahl
Guy Gavriel Kay
C.S. Forester
Dewey Lambdin
Connie Willis
Christopher Stasheff
Susan Cooper
Mary Renault
David Brin

I'm supposed to replace the authors of books I don't own with authors of books I do own, keeping the list at 10 people. However, given my preferred rates of library use, that doesn't convey enough information. So here's the expanded version.

List, with authors I've read:

Neil Gaiman
Roald Dahl
Guy Gavriel Kay
C.S. Forester
E.M. Forster
Connie Willis
Christopher Stasheff
Susan Cooper
Mary Renault
David Brin

List, with authors I definitely want to read more of:

Neil Gaiman
Diana Wynne Jones
Lisa Mason
C.S. Forester
Gwyneth Jones
Connie Willis
C.J. Cherryh
Susan Cooper
Mary Renault
Vernor Vinge

List, with authors whose books are on my shelves:

Neil Gaiman
Neal Stephenson
Gwyneth Jones
C.S. Forester (e-book)
Ursula K. Le Guin
Connie Willis
William Thackeray
Lois Bujold
R.A. MacAvoy
David Brin

List, with authors whose books are on my shelves because they belong to me:

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, together
E.M. Forster
R.A. MacAvoy
William Thackeray
Edith Wharton
Gwyneth Jones
Paul Voermans
Ursula K. Le Guin
Octavia Butler
Ted Hughes
