The scroll I've been working on was given out today in Midrealm Court.

Willow scroll

This scroll was inspired by the Skylitzes Chronicle, a twelfth-century edition of a Byzantine history that includes illustrations of the Varangian Guard. The text, written in an early Gothic hand, is based on an English summary of a chrysobull issued by the thirteenth-century Byzantine emperor Andronicus II made by Paul J. Alexander, and the illustration is labeled with the Greek words for "long house", "queen", and "king". The illumination is in gouache and shell gold; the calligraphy is in a mixture of walnut ink and a pigmented acrylic red ink.

Text

A King and Queen should possess mildness and equity. They should show constant solicitude for their subjects and reward their labors. This is particularly true with respect to everything that is concerned with the foundation and adornment of beautiful buildings. King Felix and Queen Madeleina therefore decree that Vladimir of Mistig Waetru shall be made a member of the Order of the Willow for the construction of a Long House. The present bull, their Word, was granted and dispatched on the twenty-first day of the month of November in the year two thousand twenty, being the fifty-fifth year of the Society, in the Ethereal Realm associated to this their great and glorious Middle Kingdom.
