comments on endings

Arkady Martine, A Memory Called Empire. There are so many things to admire about this book, and so many ways in which it could have been written especially for me. I particularly noticed the way Mahit thinks in a space-station-dweller's metaphors.

fiction in progress

Ian McDonald, Luna: Wolf Moon. I'm just at the very beginning, where one character is recovering from the previous book's bloody finale.

serialized fiction

Rivers Solomon, The Vela (part of chapter 3). I was amused that all of the characters became grumpier once Solomon started writing them. I am highly skeptical of their current plan, though. Don't ask the first nice woman who smiles at you in a bar to help you break into a secure facility! This isn't a D&D campaign where you know she's another player character! (Maybe she'll sell Asala out to the authorities?)

Miscellaneous world-building questions that amused me include why the spelling was saslik instead of shashlik, and whether this planet has greenhouses.
