trip East?

So, I just got an e-mail with an offer of partial funding for John Morgan's birthday conference at Columbia. This is pretty cool, because if my advisor ever finishes WRITING his paper with Morgan I get to extend it. (OK, and automate computations of topological invariants. I like topology, though. I even like programming in small doses.) But also, it is a trip to New York! I can see my sister and maybe meet her boyfriend. And lots of other East Coast people :)

[Yes, I am still playing the same game.]

i dont know if this is me, but I could see myself writing something like this :)

(its the smileys...)

I suspect it may be me. The smiley face, the parentheses, the occasional word in caps, and the beginning 'So' (which I may have inherited from B), all seem like clues. ;)

Oh, right. I definitely am. Good point. ;) So it's still un-guessed?

(Oh, and despite being happy about your game because it meant that I would hear about your life, I completely forgot to respond to the actual content of this post. I assume you'll actually let people know if you're in NYC; I think I should be around for those dates!)

Well, if this one hasn't been guessed yet, I'll go ahead and verbalize my hunch that this is me. I don't see myself as someone using smileys in my entries - which means if I do, I'm doing it subconciously, weird.

I had a hunch from the start - it was the math talk combined with traveling. It's curious to see my take on the world through someone else's eyes!

Yeah, well, I've found that it sure doesn't hurt that it's often a) cheaper and b) faster to travel from place to place within Europe than it is to travel from place to place within the U.S.

I'd never picked up on the "e-mail style" of my entries until you mentioned it, but you're right - I started the LJ in part because then I didn't have to send copies of the same email to lots of different people, because I always feel like a cad doing that, but I still approach LJ posts as if they were open-addressed emails.
