ursula: bear eating salmon (Default)

In Seattle, bubble tea is very trendy. I can't say I find the stuff appealing, but I wouldn't object, if I hadn't found myself forced to walk more than two blocks in the heart of the trendy University district to get a cup of coffee that wasn't coffee-flavored Milky Tea. I repeat: Coffee Was Not Immediately Available. In Seattle. At 8 PM. Something is wrong with the universe.

I eventually begged some from an ice-cream store. The employees apologized profusely for the fact that their steamer didn't work, and they could only give me plain shots of espresso. It wasn't bad, actually, despite their protests; my double shot of espresso tasted exactly like the coffee I make, only a little more acidic. And they gave it to me free with my ice cream.

And I did encounter two things that renew my faith in trendy Seattle-ness:
  • The sticker on a pay phone, instructing me that due to the US Patriot Act, this phone was being tapped, and I should complain to my senator
  • The army/ navy store was selling fluffy hippie skirts for $9.99 a piece. I bought two.
