I cook somewhat, but in different directions from this (adding cheese seems strange to me), so this is still of interest. Somewhat random question--feel free to sidestep it, since it's not the point of the post: why puree the soup? I am familiar with pureed soups conceptually, in a "some of my best friends puree their soups" way....
