Not helpful for Berber history, but you may be interested to know that Vincent WJ van Gerven Oei works on medieval Nubia and edits an open-access journal of Nubian studies (Dotawo). I heard him speak on the challenges of the field, and apparently one reason so little Nubian material is published is that the universities/museums who sponsored the original digs hold the copyright and dictate who can and can't access the material. That might explain why so little of your material has been dated, too - if the original researcher didn't do it, later researchers may be *unable* to do more than your correspondant has done.
