One cup of dry beans will feed two hungry adults who are going back for seconds (cookbooks will probably tell you this is 4 servings). I'd use a cup and a half for more people or if I was hoping for leftovers, maybe two if I really needed to feed a crowd. The eirias household is two adults and an elementary-schooler, which is why I waffled!
I would probably make rice or toast on the side for an ordinary meal, muffins if I was feeding guests. You can add a salad, dessert, or something in the cheese plate/appetizer family if you need to stretch.
