My organization has been trying to do diversity and inclusion this year and the official effort is going quite badly because the people leading that effort are fairly disconnected from the organizational culture (either because they are new to it or because they're longtime misfits), so I particularly appreciate how you open this by using metaphors that look like they relate to your organization's existing culture and values. I think that is a way to approach these topics and be heard sympathetically rather than oppositionally.
