Purple skirt

It occurs to me that I probably need shoes. My remotely nice shoes are a heavily beaded pair of brown flats, and Dansko sandals of a reddish brown colour. Does looking remotely dressed up require that I not wear brown shoes with a black shirt? And does this skirt require shoes that are not flat?

I think the length of the skirt will be fine with flat shoes, but brown might look a little funny.

i think black shoes would be better - if you don't like black shoes, try silver or a metallic. long skirts look better with flats, in my opinion, unless you're wearing them in winter and then they look good with heeled boots.

yep, definately black shoes. heels would work, so would maryjane style flats, etc. me, I'd probably wear my dansko maryjanes and have my sister make the OMG I CANT BLIEVE I"M RELATED TO HER face ;)

of course, you could always go with fluvog boots, too ;). you know, for that ultimate in Seattle look... ;)

very cute skirt, by the way!

I think black flats are the way to go. The skirt is the right length for sandals or ballet-like-flats (although maybe those aren't cool anymore), but black is definitely the color to go with.

You definitely don't want brown with that, I think, at least not a mediumish brown; a cooler color that plays off of the skirt is a much better idea; black would be a good default, and it's certainly the safe choice. You don't have to wear heels with it, but it's a somewhat hard length; I think anything other than sandles or (slim, at least mid-calf) boots might be a mistake, but that'd depend a little bit on the details. Basically, with the height that the hemline is at, you don't want anything to visually split up that space further, so you need something that either doesn't read as taking up any of it (sandles, preferably something relatively non-bulky), or something that smoothly takes up all of it (boots). With boots, heels might work, although you can definitely do it without them. If the wedding isn't for a little while yet I'd go with boots; I think that's the better of the two looks; OTOH, they'd be a bit odd at a summer wedding.

Hrm. Yeah, I'd say boots; I think something like that could work. Here are a couple of suggestions: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/19730437/c/3.html and http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/19029504/c/216.html; I think I like the latter better.

Yeah, but it's a cold enough brown to pass, I think, and the grey-purple suede bits would blend nicely with the skirt. Also, I think they'd be more useful for wearing other times, modulo having a bit of a heel, than the first pair.

So annie is wearing white combat boots with her wedding dress. They are very cute and have flowers and butterflies on them. I was going to wear some long velvet dr. marten boots, but they sent me the wrong size, so I may just end up with black wedge sandals. Anyway, it would be amusing if we all ended up in boots. Well, maybe not Karlie, who I just can't picture in boots.

Oh, and I got a dress. It is silk and I am going to dye it. Will post pic when it is more colorful. It is currently white with black lace around the waist. It is a super neat grecian style thing that actually makes me look like I have a chest. I will probably dye as close to black as I can get after the wedding so I will have a nice formal dress around.

Hrm. Even with the better-colored of the two photos, it's hard to get a real read on the color of the skirt. If it's a red purple, you're definitely right.

yeah, I agree...I also agree about the flats thing with that length of skirt. I suspect September will still be pretty hot for boots.

I've done brown shoes with black shirts for dress-uppy type things.

Nordstroms. Well, I have some black china flats you could wear. I just have to dig them out of their hiding space. I think I even have some velvet ones somewhere, but I *know* I have plain cloth ones.

Apparently all of the groomsmen will be wearing swords to. They can whack anyone who objects. I suppose we could stomp on their toes.

Brown flats, definitely-- maybe sandals. Black shoes won't match the skirt.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts on Friday - I'd definitely check them out first - they can have some pretty good deals. The shoe departments have a catalog of what will be on the sale if you want to pre-shop and have them hold it for you.

If you're wearing a black top then I'd say black flats or sandals (depending on weather). But then again I have a gazillion black shoes and very little else! :)
