ursula: bear eating salmon (Default)
[personal profile] ursula

I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] ent13, who has been my penpal off and on since I was in 7th grade or so.

Here's the deal:
1. Copy this whole list into your journal.
2. Bold the things that you have in common with me.
3. Whatever you don't bold, replace with things about you, trying to maintain a similar theme.

However, when I think things are excessively vague, I've elaborated.

01. I have rather more close friends than one would expect given my general introversion.
02. I have stubby toes.
03. I have eclectic taste. However, in general it tends toward "expensive and hand-made."
04. I LOVE knitting.
05. I played with FIMO a lot when I was younger, but I really preferred attempts at realistic imitation of food for my dollhouse people to making jewelry, etc.
06. I want to improve my calligraphy.
07. I hate when people type in all caps online. Also when my cat walks on the Caps Lock key.
08. I also hate people who TypE LyKe D1s. I don't mind pure lowercase, though.
09. Or when people use numbers or letters instead of whole words, unless of course they're typing math.
10. I love greys and muted colors. Probably because they match my eyes.
11. And bright red. Which doesn't.
12. I'm waiting for various poetry journals to respond.
13. I read a book a week most weeks. And a book a day on vacations.
14. Most of it's science fiction and fantasy novels.
15. Manifolds make my socks go up and down.
16. I like greens such as broccoli rabe, kale, spinach and collard greens, though mostly with paneer.
17. I am really too low-key a person to feel particularly amazed at the serendipity of the universe.
18. I have a lot to learn. But isn't it a cliche that if you don't, you're dead?
19. Including at least half a dozen languages.
20. I check my email every day to see if I got new email; usually I check dozens of times a day. After all, do you think I'd be filling this out if I had e-mail worth answering?
21. I love to cook. Since eating is a "need" (as I learned in second grade) or "natural and necessary" (as the Epicureans put it), cooking is the best tool of procrastination ever.
22. I am proud of being uncool. But really this just means I want to seem cool to a more elite group.
23. I want to live in another country for a while someday. Preferably on a Fulbright.
24. I do not clean as much as I should, and in particular I hate vacuuming.
25. I usually finish things I start. ...eventually.
26. I giggle like a six year old... often. Actually, I suspect I giggle more than I did when I was six. It's embarrassing.
27. I like having had adventures, but I don't always enjoy the process of adventure. Of course, since I have read The Hobbit, I know this is a natural response.
28. I was proud of being weird in elementary school, but I'm mostly over worrying about it now. However, in common with my fourth-grade self, I don't have enough people to play D&D with.
29. I got my first apartment this year.
30. I seem to like most cats. Most of them seem indifferent to me. They're cats.
31. I have no interest in learning a musical instrument. I class it as "responsible but likely to inspire feelings of low self-esteem," rather like jogging.
32. And I don't sing.
33. I never tried smoking.
34. I've been drinking coffee since I started seventh grade.
35. I wish I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work. But I would work, all the same. I would just have a much nicer apartment to sit cross-legged on the floor of and do math.
36. I love the smell of lily of the valley.
37. I am overly paranoid sometimes yet too trusting others. I believe this is a human trait.
38. I like people in the abstract. (Guess my sign?) I like people in particular, too, even when I want to put bags over their heads so they'll stop talking. But that doesn't mean I can think of anything to say to them.
39. I don't have lots of spare cash, but I certainly have enough. I'll be much poorer next year than this one, though.
40. I loved and miss Swarthmore [college], but I'm still glad to have graduated. Though if I could do a succession of college degrees, with progressively older fellow students each time, that would be great.
41. I like LJ too much. Would I really be posting this otherwise?
42. I like people who are a bit out of the ordinary. Of course, one of the other facts I suffered through in school is, "We're all unique," which must surely put all of us a bit away from ordinary.
43. I had rather read a book than watch a movie.
44. I'm often mistaken for a vegetarian. Probably because I have long hair and I'm dating one.
45. I wear long hippie skirts when my jeans are sufficiently filthy, or it's really hot outside.
46. I like to dress up. I thought dress-up was rather dull as a child, though.
47. I am set in my ways.
48. I don't have a camera.
49. I am not nearly as interested in plants as my mother is.
50. I love used book shops. But they have to be huge to have science fiction I'll buy.
51. I like silence at times. The rest of the time, I listen to NPR.
52. I like summer. But only in sensible places like the Pacific Northwest.
53. I like folk dance, but I'm far too spacey to be any good at it.
54. It bothers me when CDs loop and I'm not intentionally listening to certain songs a second time.
55. I like being alone sometimes. For about six hundred pages at a time, to be precise.
56. Parts of my life are pretty organized. Most of these parts involve school.
57. I like the holidays, as long as I can avoid December muzak.
58. I don't run.
59. I like when my friends write me letters and e-mails. You may think I am a troll who hates other humans, but you are incorrect.
60. I try to be as optimistic as possible. Of course, true optimism lies in the definition of "possible."
61. I don't often worry about when sarcasm is appropriate.
62. I like going to see my friends' concerts, but I can't provide intelligent commentary.
63. If I'm overreacting to something, there's probably a physical cause.
64. I like messing with my computer, but I don't care much about programming-level details. Er, programming-level? As in, the operating system? Or as in, the person who came up with this statement doesn't like to code? Personally, I quite like coding, but am opposed to activities such as the recreational reinstall of Windows.
65. I remember my dreams whenever I sleep in.
66. I love to eat! Yet more proof that I'm human!
67. I like learning. (Didn't we already cover the "not dead yet" bit?) And I'm OK with the educational system after high school. At least, one hopes so.
68. I have more windowsill space than plants. However, I probably have enough toy lizards to fill that space.
69. I don't like Bush, but things could probably be worse. I think his name was Reagan.
70. I get along well with my family.
71. The Bill of Rights is a Good Thing, but you don't need a
lot of math to tell that our method of voting doesn't result in the preferred candidate winning. Even ignoring a certain recent election.
72. I like variety in some things and routine in others. And if I saw a sentence like this in an essay I was editing, I'd put a big fat line through it.
73. I spend lots of time erasing.
74. I pay attention to pop culture, but only the nerdy bits.
75. I try not to think about children, but my relatives keep teasing me.
76. I do judge my friends because they choose differently from me; however, I assume I come up wanting often enough that everyone comes out well in the end.
77. I love to read.
78. I like dried cherries.
79. I want to live on the west coast someday. Isn't it convenient that I already do?
80. I hate makeup!
81. I can be hard to deal with sometimes. Especially if you expect me to get emotional.
82. I hate television.
83. I avoid watching movies of books I like.
84. I like my family.
85. On some issues, I'm very firm in my beliefs. In particular, I believe strongly that vague writing is bad.
86. I am female.
87. I understand why someone in his or her right mind would oppose gay civil marriage. I just don't agree.
88. I don't particularly want to go to New York City. Though there are some museums I'd like to spend time in.
89. I make it to class at 9:30, Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
90. I need to sleep at least 9 hours to feel really rested, but I manage on 7-8 more than I ought.
91. I can be really lazy sometimes. Another point on the humanity index! Gee, I think I'm not a robot!
92. I've never owned a pair of Birkenstocks.
93. If I have too much free time, I waste it on things like this survey.
94. I procrastinate too much, such as by doing things like this.
95. I think intelligence is sexy. But honestly, my definition of intelligence is much broader than "gets good grades" or "did well on the SATs" or even "understands quantum physics." Friendliness and interested in reading books I lend rank much higher on my list of sexy qualities than intelligence ever has.
96. As long as I can read and write, I'll be able to deal.
97. I don't often show strong emotions.
98. I like intelligent, witty humor.
99. I used to be really good at saving money. Now I have expenses, and it's more complicated.
100. I am done with this survey now. Though I'll probably proofread.
