In my case, it's more that too much of the exposition and development comes through bald statement of fact, when allowing the action and dialogue to carry that same exposition not only keeps it (for me) a little more interesting, but hides your manipulation of the story development from the reader.
(I probably said that badly, but I am too tired to think clearly at the moment....)
