Write fantasy novels, that is. I mean, there are obvious reasons, like my mother is a writer, and I can see that I want to do an easier job that has, you know, semi-defined hours and income associated with it. Also, my ideal novel is not quite a fantasy novel, but rather something like Jane Austen set in an even more foreign society, preferably near enough in the future that there's still believable dust in the corners of things, and that sounds even more like a lot of work than writing epic fantasy.

On the other hand, when I write poetry, it's pretty hard-core narrative stuff most of the time. It's just short. Short is good. Short means I have a chance in Hell of actually making some of it good.

And I like writing fanfic, because I like screwing with . . . I'd say "other people's minds", but "defined systems" is more accurate, because I'm also a complete RPG nerd, and all my characters are shining examples of ways to screw with other people's sets of rules. So I have this important theory that I should try to get myself hired to write short stories for scary RPG anthologies, because then people would be paying me to destroy their systems. And that would be hilarious.

But to do that, I'd have to have something to submit to them. And that means I'd have to write a short story, since I don't think the hooking-up-in-McCabe poem, brilliant as it is, is quite appropriate. Huh.
