1. My cat turned my computer's display upside-down this afternoon.

Is your display an LCD or a picture tube?

Your cat is more computer proficient than I'd hoped, but less adept at facilitating inadvertent science demonstrations. If you have an old CRT monitor, try turning it 180 degrees upside down sometime while the display is on. You'll see the colors go all wonky! Your monitor, either by factory calibration or your own knob-twiddling, is adjusted to compensate for the planet's magnetic field. Turned over, the electrons are pushed toward the wrong phosphors, hence the chromatic distortion.

Heh, rate limited mailing lists... that sounds like a *wonderful* idea.

Hrm, ok, maybe a slightly more sophisticated rate-limiter is needed.

RE: 2. I figured it was something like this. The three messages I sent this morning upon waking up and catching up with the overnight conversation I was notified were being "held", though no reason was given.

Was your cat smart enough to notice? :)

I did that once by mistake and was freaked out and amused. I even took a photo. It took some random experimentation before I figured out how the heck it had happened.

Is there a "flip horizontal" option? Because that would be funny.
