more elevation details
May. 22nd, 2008 07:21 pmMy Laurel elevation will be Saturday afternoon at June Faire. Right now, royal court is scheduled for 4:30 PM. Following
aelfgyfu's example (twice is a tradition, right?) the 'vigil' will be in the early afternoon. It will involve fifteenth-century snacks, some hemming, and the wisdom of peers. Carousal will follow court.
Please let me know if you can make it, if you want to camp with us, if you need a ride, and if you'd be willing to bring food and drink.

Date: 2008-05-23 04:58 am (UTC)BTW, I'm E-mailing the person who I gave the final drafts of the French stuff to see if I can get a copy. If not, I'll send the most recent versions of snacky bits along to you, but I definitely have 15th century stuff to pass along.

Date: 2008-05-23 03:05 pm (UTC)One particular idea I had was this: the Menagier mentions "large roasted Provence figs with laurel leaves [bay leaves] on them". Figs are out of season, but some of last fall's pears & apples are still around, so if you have access to a bay plant, chunks of pear or apple roasted with bay leaves & maybe a sprinkling of sugar would be awesome.

Date: 2008-05-23 04:35 pm (UTC)I'm going to try to do some candied nuts and fruits anyway for another June Fair project (one of the bardic groups is doing an Elizabethan play and wanted appropriate theatre food)so I can just make a double batch.

Date: 2008-05-23 09:54 pm (UTC)so what time should i show up? when are y'all heading out there and when are you heading back? if the times don't mesh i'll just drive---can you email me directions? (in which case i'd be happy to give someone else a ride too.) assuming i get sunday off, i will be camping with y'all.
i can bring food and drink but nothing too time-consuming. would some fruit, nuts, and dried fruit be okay? are there any unobvious fruits/nuts that are period-inappropriate? (when i say obviously inappropriate i'm thinking tropical guys like mangoes or bananas or macadamias or something)
also...should i dress any particular way? obviously i don't have anything even remotely authentic but would a skirt be preferable or what?

If you have a long skirt and/or dark pants I can lend you stuff to wear over it. If you want to come by sometime this week, we could go through my wardrobe & you could pick stuff to borrow-- I have lots of garb these days, in varying levels of authenticity.
Will you need to borrow camping gear (tent, sleeping bag)?
We haven't completely sorted food plans for the weekend yet-- that will probably get discussed on the household mailing list:
