My Laurel elevation will be Saturday afternoon at June Faire. Right now, royal court is scheduled for 4:30 PM. Following aelfgyfu's example (twice is a tradition, right?) the 'vigil' will be in the early afternoon. It will involve fifteenth-century snacks, some hemming, and the wisdom of peers. Carousal will follow court.

Please let me know if you can make it, if you want to camp with us, if you need a ride, and if you'd be willing to bring food and drink.

Want to bring some food? :) The general theme is fifteenth-century France & Burgundy, with specific inspiration from the typical "last" course of a banquet, which seems good for a spread of snacks (hippocras, wafers, nuts & candied nuts, fruit). If you want to cook, different sorts of tarts would be good, fresh cheese . . .

One particular idea I had was this: the Menagier mentions "large roasted Provence figs with laurel leaves [bay leaves] on them". Figs are out of season, but some of last fall's pears & apples are still around, so if you have access to a bay plant, chunks of pear or apple roasted with bay leaves & maybe a sprinkling of sugar would be awesome.

ooooh, how would you feel about fresh roasted apples with some large dried figs (the really flavorful ones) with the bay leaves? I'll have see if I can get my hands on some fresh bay leaves.

I'm going to try to do some candied nuts and fruits anyway for another June Fair project (one of the bardic groups is doing an Elizabethan play and wanted appropriate theatre food)so I can just make a double batch.
