Two SCA, one not; two about me, one not:

* aelfgyfu (also medievalglass) is on vigil for Laurel. Yay!

* After about ten months, my car works. Except for the fact that my father and I couldn't get the trunk open. That's not really a problem until the day I want a complete set of summer tires . . .

* I'm thinking about writing an emblem poem for single-entry at Kingdom Bardic. Guess that means I should start collecting nifty facts about Amalric and Caia (or just reading up on famous Roman women. Hmmmm.)

Very cool and many congratulations for her! I guess she's the person I should talk to about medieval glassblowing if I ever find the time and money for such things (since I've learned all the basics and basic color but haven't really found anything modern in the glass field which excites me too much past the initial, "Ohh! Hot glass!") -- when you guys were talking about the glass oven at 40 year, I figured it was part of a new obsession and not a long standing one.

Did you see the polycandelon at Kingdom A&S? I know you were doing class stuff for most of the day . . .

No, I don't remember seeing anything of hers, but I saw the pictures of the first polycandelon on her website and it's quite lovely. From the style, I'm guessing both yours and Derian's cups were done by her as well.

What does it mean to be on vigil for Laurel?

The Order of the Laurel is the SCA's peerage order for skill in the arts and sciences. This more or less boils down to "aelfgyfu is being recognized for her impressive artistry and her efforts in teaching and general chivalric qualities, and will thereafter be responsible for finding and nurturing these good qualities in others." (The other peerage orders are for service to the Society, and skill in heavy fighting.) There will probably be an actual vigil (that is, an opportunity to stay up late, with food, and people coming by to give advice about what it means to be a peer) shortly before the elevation ceremony.

And apaprently according to those I hang out with booze is also a very important part of the vigil. ;-)
