ursulaglasseye and I went to the Detroit Institute of Arts today. Some photos are here.- A very geometric Nativity from the African-American art section, with chickens:
- A medieval chessboard and knight for eller (it reverses to a backgammon board):
- A bronze Renaissance crab, for cassyblue:
- A sword with a calendar on it, for yhlee:
(Another part of the blade is here.) - A page from a Qur'an. The photo doesn't do this justice; it's Chinese paper, dyed purple with gold flecks, which was sent to the sultan Timur (also known as Tamerlane) as a diplomatic gift.
